Keller, a Captain in the Confederate Army and Katherine Adams, an educated lady from an intellectual family. She was deprived of her sight and hearing due to an illness that struck her when she was nineteen months old. She spent most of her time in the garden, guided by her extra perceptions of smell, touch and hearing.
